OUr ethos

Set at the foot of Skiddaw in the hills above Bassenthwaite Lake, just outside of Keswick, Kestrel Lodge Campsite provides a great base for outdoor adventures.

Our ethos is quite simple, we are a small, friendly and quite site offering that great basic camping experience, for you to relax and unwind after a long adventure in the outdoors. 

Campsite FACILITIES

Welcome to our small back-to-basics campsite! We provide everything you need to enjoy a traditional camping experience;

​

  • Reception and small honesty shop

  • Toilets and showers

  • Washing up area

  • Drinking water

  • Ice pack freezer

  • Coin operated hair dryer

  • Washing machine

  • Area for children to play

We've even got;

​​

  • An enclosed dog field so your dog can have a safe place to run and play too. 

​

  • A covered area with tables and picnic benches, so whether your cooking your evening meal or planning your next adventure you can take cover from the Lake District weather!​

​

  • A communal fire pit if you want to meet others and share stories with like minded people around the campfire. Please remember we don't allow large groups to stay. Organised outdoor groups or retreats considered, please contact the site directly. â€‹

​

  • Fire pits provided free of charge with your pitch, on a first come first served basis. Please do not bring your own and use only the wood purchased on the campsite. Thank you. 

General Information

Kestrel Lodge Campsite is a great base for your outdoor adventures in the Lake District, here's a bit more about the Campsite;​

  • We are a quiet site, not a party venue. There is no music on site. 

  • Quiet on site from 10pm.

  • No groups, a maximum of 5 adults or 2 families to keep the site friendly for all. 

  • We're dog friendly! Dogs but must be on a lead, there is a dog field you can use if you want to let them have a run.

  • Campfires are permitted, but only in the fire pits we provide. There's no charge for the firepits. 

  • Only logs bought from the campsite can be burnt in the firepits. Please don't bring your own wood nor forage for sticks in the trees. ​

  • No disposable BBQ's, raised BBQ's are permitted but please dispose of ash in ash bins. 

  • Arrivals; After 1pm (camping) and 3pm (glamping/rent a tent). Latest arrivals 7pm.​

  • Departures; after your stay please leave the site by 11am

All pitches include a fire pit or access to the communal fire pit, because there is nothing sitting round a campfire when camping!

There is an undercover area for those rainy days, hot showers at no extra cost, and a small on site shop. We're just off the beaten track, so it's quiet and beautifully remote yet still close to all the places you love to explore in the Lake District.

A back to basic, spacious Grass Camping Pitch, escape the hustle bustle and relax with fire pit.  No electric hook up. 1 car parking space included cars are parked separately to the camping pitches.

We have 2 hard standing campervan or roof top tent pitches with views over the lake, and fells. Electric hook up included for those extra luxuries, for a small campervan (VW T5 sized van), max size 5.5m in length. The quirkier the better!
