"Been coming here for 3 years. It's the type of site you want to keep secret from fold. It's got a quiet, chilled community vibe. Facilties are always spotless and cars aren't allowed the tents which is perfect". Andrew, June 2026. Google
What a wonderful campsite! Cassy and Charlie were tireless in maintaining spotless conditions, offering advice for walks, swimming spots and other points of interest. We stayed here, as a family of 4 for 10 nights. Over the course of that time we found nothing about which to complain. Yes, there are rules, and that made it perfect for what we are looking for. I am a musician, and was a bit nervous about leaving my instruments behind, as there is a no music policy, but the peace and tranquility that other reviewers have mentioned made it worth it and I was perfectly happy. We saw a lot of people come and go over our 10 days and the site was busy all of the time, I would say it was generally 70-100% full at all times. However, the pitch sizes are generous; it never felt crowded, we were in the middle section, and we did feel that we managed to 'get away from it all'. There is a freezer for freezing your ice packs as well as a washing machine and lockers for charging electrical devices (bring a plug adaptor!) The on site shop is great for essentials and the fire pit that you get with every pitch was highly appreciated. The other campers that we met were friendly, polite and all of us appreciated the post 10pm quiet - we sat in the quiet star gazing and listening to the owls - there was a meteor shower and we were lucky enough to see several shooting stars! The toilet block is small - however, we (2 daughters, my husband and I) didn't need to queue at all really, aside from one evening when exhausted D of E walkers arrived, but the wait was not long. It was kept clean and supplied with toilet paper at all times. Yes, there is limited space to change - this wasn't a problem for us, as we had a tent we could stand up in and had no problem returning to the tent in the clothes we'd gone in with - others used Oodie-style cover-ups, or dry-robes. There is a curtain between the shower (luxuriously warm and with good pressure) and the 3 hooks on the doors, so I never had an issue keeping clothing dry. Cars are kept off the grass - there are 3 parking areas, none of which are far from the camping pitches. This is not something I am used to, but again, it was no trouble - the girls loved using the wheelbarrows to convey our kit at packing up time - which was great as it turned a chore into a game. The ground is too soft for cars - but ideal for tent pegs and we enjoyed a gentle slope with no rocks, bumps, or hardness. We also enjoyed the daily visits from a cockerel and a chicken (two of several) - but hold onto your pasta! The ducks were also very amusing. The access to the Cumbrian Way is really convenient, and we enjoyed walking up Skiddaw straight from the campsite, as well as walking a shorter trek up the hill above Park Woods behind the site which offers lovely views. We also very much enjoyed walking down to The Sun Inn which has well-kept ale and tasty and generous Sunday roasts. You can also order pizza to take away from there when the kitchen is not too busy. Bassenthwaite itself is a lovely area and we enjoyed the tranquility of the lake, especially as we visited much busier areas, such as Buttermere, Windermere, and Derwent - Bassenthwaite was very quiet in comparison and lovely for wild swimming, Cassy and Charlie can recommend the quietest spots. Keswick is also a fantastic town and we enjoyed the boat tour of Derwent, and, of course, the pencil museum. We even managed a day trip to Edinburgh by driving to Carlisle and catching the train - so the location is ideal for a wide range of activities. Keswick has Booths supermarket, but the same journey time away is Cockermouth with Sainsburys, Aldi and Lidl. We had a wonderful holiday and memories were made. If/when we return to the Lakes, we won't hesitate to book with Cassy and Charlie again.
"This is a first rate campsite - beautifully situated and beautifully kept. The facilities are sparkling clean and there’s everything for an easy, convenient stay. It’s ideal for dogs with a dedicated play area. Perfect for a Lake District adventure with Skiddaw and Bassenthwaite on your doorstep.". Georgia, June 2026. Google
"Lovely little campsite with excellent facilities including toilets, showers, washing up area, fire pits and honesty shop. Staff were excellent too and so helpful. Really quiet at night. Great views of Skiddaw and lots of walks nearby. 20 minute walk to the pub. We especially liked how much space there was and having our own fire pit. Thank you!". Eleanor, June 2026. Google
"This is an excellent site. The vibe was really nice, the staff friendly and helpful. It was very quiet and peaceful and the curfew was kept but without the officious enforcement you get at some quiet sites. The honesty shop was really useful and had everything you might forget as well as fresh milk, bacon etc. Keeping the cars off the camp area made a huge difference to both the aesthetic as well as the atmosphere...
The Landpod glamping cell worked well. The camp kitchen was really good, the stove excellent and the accessories covered everything you would need. Toilets and showers were really nice and surprisingly I never had to queue even on a bank holiday weekend. Would highly recommend.". James, May 2026. Campsites.co.uk
"A gem of a campsite. Wonderful campsite. Everything you need, nothing you don't. Great staff and a fantastic atmosphere. Spent a night here after a long day in the hills with my daughter. If your wondering is this the right place. Don't hesitate. It is". David, May 2026. Tripadvisor
